Do You Believe in Magic?
Movies have the power to transport you anywhere in the world (sometimes out of this world), send you back to the future and see unbelievable creatures and monsters. If that's not magic, then I don't know what is? So whether you pop in a DVD/Blu-Ray, turn on the TV or head to the theater, you're preparing to escape your life for 90-120 minutes to become enthralled and entertained.

I'm a Real Reel Girl
I'm a movie lover from Chicago and self-proclaimed movie geek...pretty sure, a sizeable portion of my salary goes to the box office and concessions. Although I am a product of the 80s, I have a genuine love for movies old and new.

In college, I took Film 101. That's the extent of my movie expertise. I leave the job of critiquing films to the experts, although, they don't always get it right anyways! Trust me, I'm opinionated...and you'll see my rants about different films, but I love all the excitement that comes with anticipating a movie. I admire the promotions and marketing behind pubbing films (especially since that's where my skills lie).

Favorite actors:
  • SAMUEL JACKSON see Ode to Sam Jackson (after Sam, there's no particular order)
  • Don Cheadle - transforms into each character he plays
  • Angelina Jolie - I like that she always plays strong women
  • Brad Pitt (yes, both made the list) - charming smile and great character choices
  • Kerry Washington - did a great indie film Lift before making it big
  • Matt Damon - doesn't throw his hunk factor around when looking for roles, instead searches for depth in character
  • Jamie Foxx - comedian, singer, and actor...what can't he handle?
  • Willem Dafoe - the type of crazy you want to see on film
  • Al Pacino - do I really need to say?
  • Robert DeNiro - see previous comment
  • Seth Rogen (probationary) - he seems like a real person, the friend that has you ROTFL all the time, I'm optimistic about his career but until he proves his self...
  • Tom Hanks - love this guy, so many good movies under his belt
  • Clive Owens - another great guy (nice to look at too)
  • Benecio del Toro - see previous comment
  • Leonardo DiCaprio - he has matured with every role
  • Bruce Willis - do I really need to say?
  • Nick Cage - so animated, he's a living caricature of himself and he brings that to every role
  • Audrey Hepburn - classic beauty and talent, will there ever be another?
  • He's not an actor but I love Quentin Tarantino - absolutely everything he's done (there will probably be an Ode to Tarantino soon...)
Like most people, I feel there are some movies that cannot be touched with a 10 ft pole:
  • Drama
    • Lolita - luckily this was made for TV
    • The Invasion - could Nicole Kidman get any more stoic?
  • Comedy
    • Hairspray - just because John Travolta wiggled his butt in Grease and Saturday Night Fever, doesn't mean he should fill Divine's pantyhose!
    • Freaky Friday - family friendly gone wrong
    • Shaft - even my kindred spirit, Sammy couldn't make this movie a smooth operator
  • Horror Flicks (can you tell I don't care for this genre?)
    • Carrie - the remakes make me feel like someone just poured pigs blood on me
    • The Eye - its hard to touch this genre, but this definitely wasn't up to par
    • Halloween - Can we just step away from the hockey mask?
    • The Amityville Horrors - As much as Leatherface scares the crap out of me, don't need again...
    • House of Wax - just because you found a way to execute Paris Hilton on scene doesn't mean you should have movie plot out of it!
    • Black Christmas - its was comical, but seriously a waste of time
    • The Omen - should have seen that coming...
    • Prom Night -
  • Action
    • Planet of the Apes - no comment
    • Clash of the Titans - Sam Worthington makes a great protagonist, but demigod he is not
Movies I'd Love to See Made:
  • A Movie based on the 80's cartoon Jem
  • A movie about the lottery curse
  • Biopic about Steve Job and Bill Gates
  • Randy Pausch bio, chronicling "The Last Lecture"
  • Adaptation of The Coldest Winter Ever
  • A female equivalent to the bromance genre
  • Family Guy movie
  • A It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia movie
  • A sequel to:
    • The Breakfast Club
    • Grindhouse
    • Sky High

  1. Hello,
    Nice post i like it
Movies add chutzpah and glamour to our life. Without movies, our lives would be completely dull and drab. Movies simply combine moving images and sounds but they have become an essential ingredient of our lives. Movies showcase all the basic human emotions like pain, grief, happiness, joy and vengeance.
