Book Smarts for Movie Lovers

I had to share a segment from last night's Last Comic Standing on film adaptations. Best line: "Oh, Brad Pitt is in this book...so far just words!"

Mike Kaplan is a semi-finalist in the competition and one of the reasons that I am a newbie to the show. A must-see for an evening laugh.

I was one of those geeks that was really excited by all the hype around Paranormal Activity...and yes, I really liked it!

So imagine how anxious I was to present the trailer for the sequel! So much so that I decided to revert back to my blogspot. I was having too much trouble converting to a custom web address, thus ending that dream...for now (sorry for that tangent!).

Retired and Extremely Dangerous...sounds like my mom!

RED packs a punch with Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, Richard Dreyfuss and Mary-Louise Parker helming this flick. Will Freeman's turn in Wanted or Mirren's Shadow Boxer make them believable as retiring ex-CIA agents alongside action action tour de force Bruce? For me, seeing Willis grace us with his wit, charm, and "I'm old but I can still kick your @$$" bit is enough to get me to a theater. Summit Entertainment brings this eponymous DC comic book series to theaters October 15th.

Conviction

In my mind, I published and posted this trailer two weeks ago!

Wanted to share Conviction, inspired by Betty Anne Waters' fight to save her brother from prison. Waters completed her GED and went on to finish college and law school to prove her brother's innocence. Hillary Swank, Minnie Driver, Juliette Lewis, Sam Rockwell, and Melissa Leo, and Peter Gallagher (still very hot!). Although Swank may not fly this movie to box office success (especially since last year's Amelia didn't perform well.), still think it might be worth a gather.

Intensity Much?

Mashable got their hands on an exclusive teaser for The Social Network. Seriously? The music sounds like Hans Zimmer's score from the  Inception's promo. I agree with one commenter on ComingSoon.Net that says,
"I like David Fincher, alot. Hes a great director but this teaser is ****. My idea would have all his films lined up, like How Scorse did it with Shutter Island TV spot. "From the Director of Se7vn, Fight Club and Curious Case of Benjamin Button, comes the newest thriller to hit the big screen......SOCIAL NETWORK!"
Network is an adaptation of Aaron Sorkin's Accidental Billionaires about CEO Mark Zuckerburg. I'm excited to see this film since it stars Jesse Eisenberg (Zombieland), Justin Timberlake (another try at drama...sigh), Andrew Garfield (he's in Never Let Me Go, which I featured here), and Rashida Jones (Parks & Recreation, I Love You Man). This film pokes theaters on October 1st.

Another film I want to bring to your attention is The Tillman Story. It tells the story of Pat Tillman, a promising solider that turned down a NFL career to serve his country. He was posthumously decorated and honored, but as more details surrounding his death surfaced so did his family's demands for answers. Academy Award winner Josh Brolin narrates this documentary. Hits theaters late summer.

Never Let Me Go

Never Let Me Go is based on the book by the same title. Go is a coming-of-age film about teens at a boarding school dealing with their newly discovered livelihood as organ-donating clones. Considering that this is on my "to read" list, I am excited to see this adaptation come to the screen. The film stars Academy Award nominees Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightley. Hits theaters this October.

The book of the same title came out in 2005. Here are a couple of pages for your reading pleasure.

Cruise into Action with These Three Trailers

The Movie Box has all of the latest clips and promo for Knight & Day starring the uber gorgeous Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise. It hits the theaters this weekend. I am excited to Cruise bounce back from Valkyrie and that ridiculous Grossman character.

Green Hornet is the latest adaptation starring Seth Rogen and Cameron Diaz. Looks like Rogen will stay true to his slacker comedy as a lackadaisical socialite turned vigilante. I hope this is the update the TV show needs to reach a younger generation.

iGN has two trailers up for Resident Evil: Afterlife. While I hear the movie does not stay true to the game, movie lovers will be surprised to find this Evil installment is filmed in 3D. Mila Jovovich and Ali Carter join RE pretty boys newbies Boris Kojoe(SurrogatesUncovers) and Wentworth Miller(Prison Break).

Get Animated with Movie Magic

If a Brazilian backdrop isn't enough to make you want to hit the beach then 20th Century Fox's Rio will! This 3D feature drops in theaters next year but this trailer should get you excited for the film (especially with Sergio Mendes' bossa nova hit in the background). TV host/comedian George Lopez, Academy Award nominee Anne Hathaway, Glee's Jane Lynch and many more voice this animated film. Doubt you'll be disappointed as it is by the movie magicians behind Ice Age.

The Smurfs teaser is up! This teaser should conjure all kinds of nostalgic memories for 80's babies everywhere! Hank Azaria is spot-on Garamel! Singer Katy Pery, Neil Patrick Harris, Sofia Vergara and more headline this 3D take on the cartoon. Think I'd keel over if there were a Snorks movie in the works...

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is the third installment of the Narnian books and films. From Internet buzz, Voyage revolves around the youngest of the Adam and Eve's quartet Edmund and Lucy as they venture back to fantasy and adventure-filled land.

The Illusionist or L'illusionniste is a French animated that looks like a quirky story that you will easily fall in love with. I could not find stateside showing, although it will likely be in limited release. I'll keep you posted on showings and distribution as I receive more info. The flick is distributed by Pathe Films.

Lastly, wanted to get you Tangled in Disney's take on Rapunzel voiced by Mandy Moore. Excited to see this become a light-hearted tale (it is based on a Brother Grimm fairy tale). Ewan McGregor, Ron Perlman and Steve Martin lend their pipes as well.

Karate Partay

Wanted to share a post from my event planning blog to begin planning a small shindig around "The Karate Kid", in theaters this Friday.
Check it below:

If you're a dork like me you'll enjoy themed parties like this one. I am also excited to see this movie updated for the young'ns!

The Topline Says It All...

Why this trailer isn't sprawled across the web is a mystery to me. Had to include since Sammie is in it. Jackson stars as an interrogator using unorthodox tactics against a terrorist who has set three nuclear bombs in the U.S. Michael Sheen and Carrie Ann-Moss also star in this in thriller. Looks like a intense, more updated Negotiator. If you've seen one terrorist film, you've seen them all.

That aside, Glad to see Samuel back to dramatic roles, I love when he does intensity (see Time to Kill).

Four Star Site

If there are two Hollywood men I ABSOLUTELY love, they are Sam Jackson and Quentin Tarantino. I have honored Sammie in my own way, but I came across this awesome site, "The Tarantino Archives" that will blow your mind with Tarantino overload.

It was even blessed Tarantino who said the "website is just f$%^ing killer." If that's not enough reason to go to the website, check out the community where you can chat with other Reservoir Dog fans.
